Writing
Writing has a pre-eminent place in education and in society. A high-quality education in English will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others. Mastering this is a complex process; children must acquire the skills and knowledge of transcription, syntax and composition.
Writing down ideas fluently depends on effective transcription: fluent, legible, efficient handwriting; spelling quickly and accurately. A command of syntax involves a skilled use of an increasingly broad vocabulary alongside a conscious control of the forms of standard English. Effective composition requires an awareness of the audience, purpose and context as well as the ability to form, articulate and communicate ideas within an coherent structure.
